Treasurer Jim Chalmers will outline Australia’s Federal Budget 2024-2025 on 14 May 2024 in Canberra. This major government policy is traditionally announced on the second Tuesday in May – although this has varied in previous years.

This announcement outlines how the Federal Government plans to use public money it collects, and how it will be spent e.g. on the welfare and education of Australia’s citizens, infrastructure, defence, and to support and encourage business growth. It also details the extent of our nation’s deficit or surplus.

The Federal Budget is an annual policy statement that assesses Australia’s economy in detail. It explains where the Government plans to use the funds it collects in the form of taxes, duties, excises, levies and profits from government agencies.
